The idea

How it lives

One long porch shelters a compact block of bedrooms, baths and laundry. The roof is a true saltbox: the ridge sits five feet north of center, so the living room and kitchen rise into a tall space under the steep side. A 457 sq ft open loft sits over the middle of the plan and looks down into the living room.
